Krakens Draft Recap: The Marathon

The Krakens closed out draft season with a marathon session — 3 hours and 15 minutes of boards shifting, strategies colliding, and more than a few eyebrow-raising selections. By the time the dust settled, 16 rounds had given every roster its shape, with some familiar patterns and some surprises unique to this room.

The Quarterback Frenzy

Seven quarterbacks went in the first round, including Lamar Jackson at 1.01 to the Rum Runners. That same franchise doubled down harder than anyone else, becoming the only team in the draft to take back-to-back QBs, adding Kyler Murray at 2.12. Between picks 1.05 and 1.11, six of the seven selections were signal-callers, with only Jahmyr Gibbs breaking the streak.

Building Around the Skill Spots

The Aviators opened with a rare WR-WR turn at 1.12 and 2.01, locking in their foundation at the edge of the round. Music City Miracles went the opposite way, committing to a RB-RB start at 1.09 and 2.04. The Warbirds were the first to address tight end, grabbing Brock Bowers at 2.08 — a familiar landing spot for the TE standout in drafts across the league.

Runs and Reaches

Runs defined much of the middle board.

Not every move was conventional. The Bacchanalians pulled Lajohntay Wester at 5.02 — a head-turner that fit the “get your guy” mantra. Later, they doubled up in unusual fashion, finishing with two kickers and two defenses on the same roster.

The Long Game

Even established winners mixed in curveballs. The defending world champion leaned into balance but still made headlines by taking the first kicker of the entire WRL season, selecting Brandon Aubrey at 9.04. By then, the draft’s pace had slowed, but the decisions still carried ripple effects across the remaining boards.

Early Storylines to Watch

The Krakens may have taken the longest to draft, but the region set itself apart with a mix of bold moves, steady runs, and a few outliers that will be remembered well past opening kickoff.
