Brady Sits Down to #1 remains the only undefeated team in the WRL and finally claims the No. 1 Power Ranking, while Mantis Mayhem owns Week 6’s biggest performance and the Monarchs turn the anticipated Game of the Week into a one-sided affair.
For five weeks, the WRL had two different answers to the question of who was best. The Monarchs owned the No. 1 Power Ranking, leading the league in the cumulative categories that rewarded their scoring and All-Play strength. Brady Sits Down to #1 owned something simpler but equally compelling: the only perfect record left among 36 teams.
Week 6 finally brought those two stories together.
Brady defeated Lunatics 174.36-138.16, improved to 6-0 and climbed to No. 1 in the Power Rankings at .977. The Monarchs did their part by winning the much-anticipated showdown with Rum Runners, but Brady’s cumulative résumé was enough to end the Monarchs’ two-week reign at the top. For the first time this season, one team owns both perfection and the throne.
Black Dragon: Brady Has It All
Last week, Brady Sits Down to #1 was undefeated but still looking up at the Monarchs in the Power Rankings. Week 6 changed that. Facing No. 11 Lunatics, who had just produced the highest Week 5 score in the WRL, Brady delivered another strong performance and won 174.36-138.16. Six games have now produced six victories, and the only undefeated team in the league finally has the ranking to match.
Bearcats remains close behind after defeating Diablo Valley Detectives 135.06-119.56. The win keeps Bearcats at No. 3 overall and gives Black Dragon two of the top three teams in the league, setting up a massive Week 7 meeting between Brady and Bearcats.
Elsewhere, Music City Miracles beat Here For The Beer 140.76-130.80, while Lucky Ass Ferg defeated Aviators 141.42-131.54. The Aviators have now lost five consecutive games, yet remain No. 12 in the Power Rankings, a reminder that their cumulative scoring and All-Play work can still carry weight even while the standings trend in the wrong direction.
The defending champion finally stopped a skid of their own. Turd Ferguson beat Groot 124.90-114.40, ending a three-game losing streak despite posting the lowest winning score of Week 6. That earns Ferguson the week's Ugly Win, but after three straight losses, ugly undoubtedly looks beautiful enough.
Teds Lasso also collected a victory, beating Maniax 135.02-97.50. Maniax has now lost five consecutive games, matching Aviators for the longest active losing streak in Black Dragon.
The larger story, however, belongs to Brady. Six weeks into the season, every other WRL team has lost at least once.
Brady has not.
Gold Dragon: Mayhem Runs Wild
The biggest performance of Week 6 came from Gold Dragon, where Mantis Mayhem hammered CHAOS 176.08-126.28. The 49.80-point margin was the largest anywhere in the WRL this week, and it handed another setback to a CHAOS team that occupied the No. 1 Power Ranking only three weeks ago.
Gold Dragon also produced the closest game of the week. Southern Sirens edged Gridiron Grinders 139.50-136.10, surviving by just 3.40 points. Rochester Rabbits followed their explosive first victory from Week 5 with another win, defeating Totally Turtley 159.46-138.88, giving the Rabbits consecutive victories after starting the season 0-4.
The ranked matchup we highlighted last week belonged to Fast Johnnie Syndicate, although it never developed into much of a fight. Syndicate beat NY Jackets 139.52-97.16, extending their winning streak to five games and moving them to No. 5 in the Power Rankings. After losing their opener to Unicorn Legends, Fast Johnnie has not lost since.
Unicorn Legends finally stopped their own slide, snapping a three-game losing streak with a 133.76-112.16 victory over The Lone Rangers. Average Joes also picked up a win over Crayon Crusaders 131.38-121.32.
Gold Dragon once belonged to CHAOS at the top of the rankings, but the region’s hottest team now wears a different name. Five consecutive victories have turned Fast Johnnie Syndicate from an opening-week loser into a legitimate contender.
Red Dragon: The Game of the Week Wasn’t Much of a Game
No. 1 versus No. 4. Two Hall of Fame GMs. Monarchs versus Rum Runners had every reason to become the centerpiece of Week 6.
Instead, it became a rout.
The Monarchs beat Rum Runners 132.62-86.20, with the Runners posting the second-lowest score by any WRL team this season, ahead of only Lunatics’ 80.00 in Week 2. The Monarchs did not produce one of their usual high-scoring performances, but they never needed to. They improved to 5-1 and remain right on Brady’s heels at No. 2 with a .963 Power Ranking.
The most painful Red Dragon loss belonged to THE Ohio River Monsters. They scored 143.76, the highest losing total anywhere in the WRL this week, only to fall to Virginia Blackbeards 148.56-143.76. The victory gives the Blackbeards four consecutive wins and pushes them all the way to No. 6 in the Power Rankings.
Boss Hoggs remained among the league’s elite by beating Boats N Hoes 141.34-126.26, keeping Hoggs at No. 4 overall. Coolidge Scorpions defeated Garbage Points 140.14-134.92, while Mad Scientist continued their recovery from an 0-4 start with a 146.42-119.64 victory over E-Thugs. Mad Scientist has now won two straight, while E-Thugs has lost four in a row.
Villains defeated Nauti Dawgs 138.78-108.26, leaving the Dawgs at 0-6. At the halfway point of the regular season, Nauti Dawgs remain the only winless team in the entire 36-team WRL.
Red Dragon no longer owns the No. 1 ranking, but the region still places the Monarchs, Boss Hoggs, Virginia Blackbeards and Rum Runners inside the league’s top eight. Brady may own the throne, but Red continues to crowd the room around it.
Power Rankings: Perfection Finally Reaches No. 1
For the first five weeks, the No. 1 ranking told a story of constant movement. THE Ohio River Monsters, Bearcats, CHAOS and the Monarchs all took turns sitting atop the WRL, with the Monarchs becoming the first team to retain the position for consecutive weeks.
Week 6 brings another change, but this one feels different.
Brady Sits Down to #1 has spent the entire season protecting the only perfect record left in the league. At 6-0, that consistency has finally carried them to the top of the complete Power Ranking formula as well.
The Week 6 Top 15 is:
- Brady Sits Down to #1 — .977
- Monarchs — .963
- Bearcats — .921
- Boss Hoggs — .912
- Fast Johnnie Syndicate — .894
- Virginia Blackbeards — .866
- CHAOS — .792
- Rum Runners — .736
- Groot — .690
- Here For The Beer — .662
- Lunatics — .648
- Aviators — .606
- Lucky Ass Ferg — .597
- Villains — .593
- Music City Miracles — .565
Brady’s ascent gives Black Dragon two of the top three spots, while Red Dragon owns four of the top eight. Fast Johnnie Syndicate continues climbing behind a five-game winning streak, and Virginia Blackbeards has ridden four consecutive victories to No. 6.
The throne changed hands again.
This time, it belongs to the only team nobody has beaten.
Week 7 Preview: Something Has to Give
Week 7 keeps the WRL outside its divisions, and this slate gives us five Top-15 matchups, beginning with one that practically writes its own headline.
No. 1 Brady Sits Down to #1 faces No. 3 Bearcats in Black Dragon. Brady brings the league’s only undefeated record and newly claimed No. 1 ranking. Bearcats brings a 5-1 record and has spent nearly the entire season among the WRL’s elite. If somebody is going to end perfection, the No. 3 team in the league seems like a reasonable candidate.
Black Dragon also gives us No. 11 Lunatics against No. 12 Aviators. The Aviators’ five-game losing streak makes their ranking look unusual, but their cumulative body of work has kept them inside the Top 15. Week 7 gives them another chance to stop the slide against a former WRL champion.
Gold Dragon features No. 5 Fast Johnnie Syndicate against No. 7 CHAOS. Fast Johnnie enters with five consecutive victories, while CHAOS is trying to stabilize after another disappointing week. One team is climbing quickly. The other is trying to rediscover the form that once made them No. 1.
Red Dragon supplies two more ranked battles. No. 8 Rum Runners faces No. 14 Villains, with the Runners attempting to recover from their season-low performance against the Monarchs. The larger matchup pairs No. 2 Monarchs against No. 6 Virginia Blackbeards, putting the former No. 1 against one of the hottest teams in the entire league. The Blackbeards have won four straight; the Monarchs have won five of six and remain only .014 behind Brady in the Power Rankings.
Week 6 finally united perfection with the No. 1 ranking.
Week 7 immediately puts both on the line.
