Despite a chaotic Week 14 that saw lopsided wins, late-game dramatics, and more streaks building or breaking, the top of the APBL Power Rankings remains virtually untouched. The top nine teams all held their positions — but some made subtle moves in either direction when it came to overall power rankings.
Still Standing Strong: Yankees, Reds, Rangers, Braves
The New York Yankees (0.976) maintain the top spot for a second straight week. While they were tested by the Angels in a 42-point victory, the win extended their league-best power score. The Cincinnati Reds (0.893) stay level with Texas in the standings but pull slightly ahead in the rankings with their third win in a row.
Texas (0.845) and Atlanta (0.845) are deadlocked in third/fourth with identical power scores — but Atlanta remains one of the most consistent offenses, even in close losses. The Angels (0.702) may be flying just below elite tier status, but they showed resilience this week in a high-scoring bout with the Bronx Bombers.
Slight Slides & Steady Grinds
While Chicago Cubs (0.595) and St. Louis Cardinals (0.548) each hold their ground in the standings, their power scores dipped slightly. St. Louis, in particular, is trending downward after suffering a 71-point loss to the Angels.
The Detroit Tigers (0.524) continue their quiet rise with four straight wins, including a 100-point rout of Cleveland. But even with the surge in wins, Detroit’s power score dipped ever so slightly — a reminder that strength of opponent still weighs heavily.
The San Francisco Giants (0.500) reach the halfway point in their Power Rating after taking down the red-hot Rangers. Last year’s champions are now winners in six of their last seven and are starting to resemble a true postseason threat again.
Movement in the Middle: Toronto, Boston Climb
The Toronto Blue Jays (0.310) narrowly lost to the Cubs in the closest game of the week (+3), but even in defeat, they showed signs of progress. That effort was enough to push them up to the No. 10 spot in the rankings, breaking their freefall with the smallest of stabilizations.
Boston (0.274) also climbed a spot, moving to 11th in the rankings, aided by another competitive outing despite a loss to the Cardinals.
Orioles Tumble; Chicago, Cleveland Hold
The biggest drop came from the Baltimore Orioles (0.262) who fell two spots after suffering their third straight defeat — this time in a 166-point blowout to Cincinnati. The early-season promise is starting to fade as Baltimore tumbles out of the top 10.
At the bottom, no change: the Chicago White Sox (0.119) and Cleveland Guardians (0.107) remain locked into the 13th and 14th slots, respectively. Both teams are searching for answers as the season heads into its final stretch.
Looking Ahead – Week 15
Week 15 brings several high-stakes matchups — the Reds look to stay perfect against the Cardinals, while Detroit’s win streak will be tested against the struggling, yet desperate Blue Jays. And after tying earlier this year, the Chicago showdown between the Cubs and White Sox could serve as a statement for one — and a much-needed lifeline for the other.
