The Heavyweights Respond

For two weeks, the Alliance Professional Baseball League felt like a league in transition.

Miami knocked off St. Louis in the biggest regular-season matchup of the year. Arizona continued its rise through the National League. Boston stumbled. The Cardinals briefly lost their perfect Power Ranking. For the first time all season, it felt possible that the balance of power at the top of the league might be shifting.

Week 10 offered a different message.

The contenders responded.

St. Louis reclaimed its perfect 1.000 Power Ranking. The Angels walked into a heavyweight fight against Miami and emerged with one of the most impressive victories of the season. The Yankees continued their climb back into the spotlight. The Cubs strengthened their growing reputation as one of the league's hottest teams. Even the Giants, a franchise that already owns a championship banner, reminded everyone they are still capable of delivering a knockout punch.

Ten weeks into the season, the playoff races remain crowded and the standings remain competitive, but one thing is becoming increasingly clear. The list of teams capable of winning a championship is beginning to separate itself from the rest of the field.

Angels 324, Marlins 269 - A Heavyweight Lands the Bigger Punch

If there was a game that lived up to the article's title, it was the showdown between the Angels and Marlins.

The matchup felt like two prizefighters standing toe-to-toe in the center of the ring, with neither side willing to take a step backward. Los Angeles held a ten-point lead after Monday's games. Miami answered on Tuesday. The Angels reclaimed the advantage on Wednesday. The Marlins responded again on Thursday. By the time the weekend arrived, neither team had managed to create any meaningful separation.

Then the Angels delivered the decisive blow.

Los Angeles turned a 13-point lead on Friday into a 15-point lead after Saturday before finally pulling away on Sunday to secure a 324-269 victory. The final margin of 55 points hardly reflects how competitive the matchup felt throughout most of the week. Both teams traded punches for four straight days before the Angels finally landed the shot that changed everything.

For a Miami club coming off its statement victory over St. Louis, the loss serves as a reminder that life at the top of the standings rarely gets easier. For the Angels, it was another signature victory and further evidence that they belong in every championship conversation.

Cardinals 246, Guardians 161 - The Standard Returns

For a brief moment, Cleveland had the attention of the entire league.

The winless Guardians entered Wednesday with a ten-point lead over the Cardinals, creating the possibility of what would have been the largest upset of the 2026 season. Social media chatter began to build. Managers around the league took notice. St. Louis suddenly found itself facing questions it had not faced very often this season.

Great teams tend to answer those questions quickly.

The Cardinals responded with a massive Thursday performance, turning a ten-point deficit into a 33-point lead. From there, they never looked back. The final score showed an 85-point victory and another win for a franchise that continues to set the standard across the APBL.

The victory also returned St. Louis to a perfect 1.000 Power Ranking, erasing the small dent created by last week's loss to Miami and reinforcing the reality that the road to a championship still runs through the Cardinals.

Giants 275, Red Sox 190 - San Francisco Sends a Message

One week after surprising Cincinnati, the Giants added another contender to their growing list of victims.

Boston entered the matchup riding a three-game winning streak and holding firm in third place in the Power Rankings. Through Thursday, the game remained extremely competitive, with San Francisco protecting only a nine-point lead. What happened next changed everything.

The Giants exploded over the final three days, stretching the advantage to 44 points and then 86 before ultimately securing an 85-point victory. The result was one of the most surprising outcomes of Week 10 and served as a reminder that San Francisco remains one of the most dangerous teams in the league when its lineup catches fire.

Championship banners create expectations. This week, the Giants played like a franchise that remembers exactly how to win.

Cubs 257, Orioles 195 - Chicago's Rise Continues

The Cubs spent much of the early season searching for consistency.

They may have found it.

Chicago controlled its matchup against Baltimore from beginning to end, leading wire-to-wire against an Orioles team that entered the week looking to strengthen its position among the American League contenders. Baltimore continued to battle throughout the scoring period but never managed to get closer than 18 points.

By week's end, the Cubs had secured a convincing 62-point victory and improved to 6-4 on the season.

What makes Chicago particularly interesting is how different the club feels compared to a month ago. The Cubs are playing with confidence, stacking quality performances together, and beginning to look like a team nobody will want to face down the stretch.

Yankees 227, Diamondbacks 187 - The Bronx Is Getting Loud Again

The Yankees are making an argument that they belong back among the league's elite.

Arizona briefly held a one-point advantage after Monday's games, but New York erased the deficit almost immediately and never allowed the Diamondbacks back into serious contention. The Yankees built a lead as large as 68 points before ultimately finishing with a comfortable 40-point victory.

The win marks New York's third consecutive victory and pushes the Bronx Bombers into the APBL Power Rankings Top Five. Considering where the Yankees found themselves just a few weeks ago, their recent climb has been one of the league's more impressive developments.

The league is beginning to take notice.

Braves 244, Rangers 171 - Atlanta Flips the Script

The defending champions looked poised to control the matchup after jumping out to an early lead on Monday. Atlanta had other plans.

The Braves seized control on Tuesday and never gave it back, steadily increasing the margin throughout the remainder of the week. By Saturday, Atlanta's lead had reached 100 points before settling at a 73-point victory.

For a Braves team searching for consistency throughout much of the season, the win represented one of its strongest performances of the year.

White Sox 215, Reds 195 - A Rivalry Finally Changes Direction

The brother-versus-sister matchup finally produced a different result.

Cincinnati entered the week having won both previous meetings between the franchises, but Chicago had no interest in continuing that trend. The White Sox grabbed the lead after Wednesday's games and steadily widened the gap throughout the week, eventually building a lead as large as 64 points before holding on for a 20-point victory.

The Reds mounted a late charge, but they simply ran out of time.

For the first time in APBL history, the White Sox defeated Cincinnati.

Phillies 345, Athletics 74 - Total Domination

Week 10's most lopsided result belonged to Philadelphia.

The Phillies posted the highest score in the league while Sacramento produced the lowest. The final margin of victory was so large that the difference between the two teams would have been enough to win all but three matchups across the league this week.

Simply put, Philadelphia dominated from start to finish.

Power Rankings

The top of the Power Rankings underwent its most significant change in weeks despite the same three teams occupying the top positions.

St. Louis reclaimed its perfect 1.000 rating following its victory over Cleveland. Miami remained firmly in second at .927 despite falling to the Angels, while Boston held third place at .844. The Angels strengthened their hold on fourth after their statement victory over the Marlins, and the Yankees climbed into fifth following their third consecutive win.

  1. St. Louis Cardinals — 1.000
  2. Miami Marlins — .927
  3. Boston Red Sox — .844
  4. Los Angeles Angels — .802
  5. New York Yankees — .719

The names at the top continue to evolve, but one thing remains constant. If a team hopes to win the APBL championship, it will eventually have to go through one of these heavyweights.

Week 11 Preview

Week 11 brings the league back into divisional play, and several rivalries arrive carrying major implications.

The National League East race takes center stage as Cincinnati and Miami meet once again. The Reds handed the Marlins their first loss of the season earlier this year, and both clubs enter the week coming off disappointing defeats. First place could very well be hanging in the balance.

Boston and Baltimore renew a rivalry that already produced one Orioles victory this season. The Red Sox are looking to avoid consecutive losses, while Baltimore hopes to prove its earlier win was no fluke.

The matchup between Chicago and San Francisco may quietly be the game baseball fans should circle. Both clubs are playing some of their best baseball of the season, and both enter Week 11 carrying significant momentum.

Meanwhile, the entire league will once again be watching Arizona and St. Louis. Earlier this season, the Diamondbacks handed the Cardinals their first loss of the year. With St. Louis once again carrying a perfect 1.000 Power Ranking, the rest of the Alliance will be watching closely to see whether Arizona can repeat history.

Because while Week 10 belonged to the heavyweights, Week 11 offers another reminder that contenders are always looking for an opportunity to land the next big punch.
